1. What this service is
CaratBase provides free informational tools for estimating the value of jewellery, diamonds, coloured stones, pearls and precious metals, together with reference material. It is an information service. Using it does not create a professional, advisory, agency or fiduciary relationship between us.
2. Accuracy
We work hard to make the figures defensible and we publish our method openly so you can judge it. We do not warrant that anything here is accurate, complete or current. Please read the disclaimer — it forms part of these terms.
3. Using the site
You may use CaratBase freely for personal and commercial purposes, including checking values in the course of your own business. You may quote our figures with attribution and the date retrieved.
You may not:
- Scrape, bulk-download or systematically extract the site or its data
- Copy the underlying price models or databases to build a competing service
- Present our estimates as a formal appraisal, or as anyone's opinion but ours
- Attempt to interfere with the site, its infrastructure, or other users
- Submit false information to the offer-reporting feature, which would corrupt data other people rely on
4. What you submit
If you report an offer or submit stone details, you grant us a non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use that information in aggregate and anonymised form — including to improve our estimates and to publish market statistics. We will not publish anything that identifies you. You confirm that what you submit is truthful to the best of your knowledge.
5. Our content
The text, design, code, price models and compiled reference data on CaratBase belong to [TO CONFIRM: legal entity] and are protected by copyright. Fonts are used under the SIL Open Font Licence. Company names and trade marks mentioned belong to their owners and are used descriptively; no affiliation or endorsement is implied except where stated.
6. Other people's sites
We link to third parties we believe are useful. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, pricing, conduct or privacy practices. Some links earn us a commission, as set out in the disclaimer.
7. Availability
The site is free and provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available, uninterrupted, or preserved. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it at any time. Anything you have saved lives in your own browser, so keep your own copy of anything that matters to you.
8. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, nor for lost profit, lost opportunity, or loss arising from reliance on our estimates. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us, which for a free service is nothing. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the site or breach of these terms.
10. Privacy
Our privacy policy explains what we do with data. In short: no cookies, no third-party trackers, no persistent identifier, and nothing leaves your device unless you type it into a form.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and continuing to use the site means accepting the current version.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [TO CONFIRM: jurisdiction], and the courts of that jurisdiction have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of protections you have under the law of your own country.
